Tenerife, much more than sun and beach

For those of you who already know tenerife, you will know that it is an island that offers infinite natural spaces, far beyond the sun, the beach and the Teide.  

Today, in this post, I want to present you, among the hundreds we have, a very cool hiking route. A circular path, about 8 kilometres long and about 5 hours long, which will take us to discover another little piece of the Anaga Rural Park and Biosphere Reserve.  

Chamorga is a small hamlet, which together with Las Cumbrillas, Las Casillas and Lomo de Las Bodegas, forms part of the well-known Punta de Anaga, in the heart of the Rural Park.  

From Santa Cruz, the capital, it is about 30 kilometres of winding roads and so it takes almost an hour to get there, from San Cristóbal de La Laguna, it is about 20 kilometres. The fastest and most comfortable way is by car, but if you do not have or do not want to rent one, you can also arrive by bus, line 947, but beware, there is not much frequency and at 19:25 leaves the last direction Santa Cruz, so depending on when you want to come, I advise you to consult schedules before adventures.  

From Chamorga, the path starts to take us to Roque Bermejo, passing by the Tafada Houses and the Anaga Lighthouse. This lighthouse was built in 1863, is the oldest in the Canary Islands and still serves its purpose today.  

The road dies here, so there is no loss. You can park your car next to the bus stop without any problem. Here you will find a sign with the different paths to follow, we will take the PR-TF 6.1, direction Tafada. They are all beautiful, dotted with laurel forest and heather and accompanied by the mist provided by the trade winds, a real spectacle. Our path starts uphill, so cheer up! 

The first thing we find is a spectacular view of Los Roques de Anaga.  After leaning out and enjoying the wonderful views, we continue towards our destination.  

Once here, the landscape changes completely, we leave behind the dense laurel forest, to enter a rocky and desert landscape dotted with cardons and tabaibas. Before us, the Roque Pilón and the houses of Tafada. Today only a few ruins remain of them, but during the 18th century they were very important as a maritime surveillance point.  

We continue our way without stopping to admire the majestic Atlantic, dotted with rocky formations. From here, the descent to the Anaga Lighthouse begins, the path is well indicated and not dangerous, but still, beware of slipping.  

Once we have reached the lighthouse, we continue descending for about 600 metres to Roque Bermejo, a perfect place to take a bath and rest, as from now on it is time to climb up to Chamorga.  

As it is a circular path, you have no problem turning around if you do not see yourself able to go down to the beach. Once you are back to Chamorga, I recommend you to make a stop to recover your strength.  For this, the only bar in the area, Casa Alvaro, fresh beer or why not... a local wine and some typical food from the island.  

One last piece of advice...Tenerife is an island with a multitude of microclimates due to its variety of landscapes and unevenness, so I recommend that you take a variety of clothes with you on any walk, from a swimming costume to a mackintosh and above all, good footwear.
